In the halls of South Central Jr./Sr. High School, Mr. Ledford's third-year construction class has wrapped up another impressive project - a complete remodel of the press box stairway at South Harrison Parks. This semester's accomplishment, a collaboration between 14 students from Corydon Central and South Central campuses, highlights the practical outcomes of the district's Pathway Program.

šŸ  Take a Look:
The class isn't just about building structures; it's about translating ideas into tangible results. From community spaces to homes, each project showcases the dedication and skill these students bring to their work.

For this project particularly, students tore down the old staircase to rebuild a new one. All of the materials were provided by the Harrison County Parks Department, and every day they were on the job site, Mr. Ledford could just see how invaluable opportunities like this are for students.

šŸ“ø Behind the Scenes:

But it's more than construction; it's a practical learning experience. The Pathway Program blends hands-on training with real-world applications, providing students with technical expertise and essential life skills like teamwork and problem-solving.

ā€œFor the next project I need to plan extra time for additional teaching because there are just as many ā€˜teachable momentsā€™ we can have on a job site as we do in the workshop,ā€ Mr. Ledford said.

šŸŒŸ Celebrate Success:
As we admire the finished project, let's recognize the hard work of Mr. Ledford and the passion of these students. They're not just building structures; they're laying the groundwork for future success.

ā€œFor their first time off-site, the students performed rather well,ā€ Ledford said. ā€œWe started each morning around 30 degrees with a light frost. And, although the project took longer than expected, the stairs are complete and much better than what was there before.ā€

Mr. Ledford's construction class is making strides toward a brighter future, one project at a time. Here's to building dreams and shaping the next generation of builders and leaders!
