Dyslexia Information

Indiana Code 20-35.5 outlines requirements for schools related to supporting students with learning characteristics related to dyslexia.  South Harrison is required to screen all K-2 students for characteristics of dyslexia and provide targeted support to students who may be at risk for reading difficulties.  Through this process, students are provided with direct instruction in the six components of early literacy development: phonological and phonemic awareness, alphabet knowledge, sound symbol recognition, decoding, rapid naming fluency, and encoding.  At South Harrison teachers work to cultivate productive learning environments that promote literacy in all students.
